Animal Testing with Cosmetics

In 1933, a woman bought mascara called Lash Lure. Immediately after she used it her eyes began to burn and she developed sores which made her blind. Soon after she died. So the government took steps to help the public by performing the eye irritation test on animals. They tested on rabbits by holding them firmly until they are finally quiet.
Was it the cosmetics that caused her to die?
Do you think its wrong testing on animals?
Was it her skin that caused it to react?
Tell me what you think.

  1. I have no problem with animal testing as long as it is done humanely. I think that is wasnt the cosmetic itself but maybe it was mixed with something to cause a chemical reaction.

  2. I'm thankful there are animals we can test things on, but it has to be done right and with some dignity to the animal. If it can't be I wonder then if it's worth it in the outcome. The cosmetic field is not one I'd be too concerned with. It's the testing for the cure of diseases that is the greatest. I'm sure if we could talk to the animals they would say it is our fault, that we brought on these diseases and now they have to pay the price to help with finding a cure.

  3. I personally think that it’s cruel to test on animals. Most make ups are made with harmful chemicals, and what could have happened to her maybe was an allergic reaction to the chemicals or the product wasn’t properly tested. The cosmetic companies can’t go and sell products that are not safe for the human beings to wear, that would be illegal and they could probably get sued for selling the products that are unsafe.

  4. If chemicals are so harmful why do they test cosmetics on animals? I agree with what you’re saying that the chemicals could be really unsafe. However why not test on animals? Why not use animals for human safety? Is it wrong to use them for our own purposes?
